Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Psalm 51: 7
Today’s Devotionalโฆ
David, the man after God’s heart, in the above verse, prophetically cried out to God and asked that God should purge him with hyssop and wash him, so he could be clean, whiter than snow. But what was he talking about?
The prophet Isaiah made it clearer in the 18th verse of the first chapter of the book named after himself saying “โฆCome now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as woolโฆ”
So, the two servants of God in these separate recordings were revealing deep mysteries about the Messiah who was to come, and how He would cleanse the sin of all mankind.
So in John 19:29-30, it is recorded: “โฆNow there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus, therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghostโฆ”
This was the fulfillment of the prophecies and the physical manifestation of what only appeared as a mystery throughout the entire Old Testament.
Jesus, who had borne the sins of all men on that cross of Calvary, when He was touched with that hyssop, David’s prayer was answered, and Isaiah’s prophecy was fulfilled. Abba Father!
And strangely, besides Jesus, were also hung two thieves alive, which was recorded yet as another mystery in Lev 14:4 saying: “โฆThen shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssopโฆ”
Listen, Jesus is the Messiah, He is the Christ, and He has cleansed all men from sin. If you believe in scripture, know this truth and have peace. Indeed, it is finished!
May your spirit be opened to receive all divine blessings in abundance, both in this life and in eternity, according to God’s perfect plan for you in Christ, in His holy name. Amen
