Today’s Devotional…

Jesus performed two significant miracles as He recounts Himself in the portion of scripture above; but even at the time (to Jesus’ disappointment), His very disciples, (just like the Christians today), did not understand it.

Jesus feeding five thousand men and later four thousand, while gathering twelve and 7 baskets of leftovers respectively, was not just a record of some miracle of multiplication, but a deeper message of the totalitarian salvation of humankind. Ponder…

In the incident where Jesus fed five thousand, the population was predominantly Jewish; and the twelve baskets of leftovers actually represented the complete salvation of all twelve tribes of Israel.

In the next scenario where Jesus fed four thousand, the population was predominantly Gentile (or non-Jewish), and the seven large baskets of leftovers actually signified God’s sabbath rest on the seventh day after the complete salvation of the rest of the world. Ponder deep…

Jesus didn’t perform miracles for fun. Even what people viewed with excitement as mere miracles, Jesus expected His disciples to understand the deeper meaning behind the signs, (even as He expects you reading this devotional today to understand the meaning of the signs of this time.) Ponder…

Jesus was simply projecting in these separate events that none shall be lost, and that there shall be such an overflow of the salvation of both Jews and Gentiles that there would be more than enough leftovers of grace should anyone fall again (or “hunger again”.) Ponder again…

This is what the apostle John was referring to, many years later when he wrote in 1John 2:1-2: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” Ponder…

May the Holy Spirit grant you understanding in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
