“Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world”. This is a very popular quote in Christendom, but many use it just to soothe their fears, and not actually because they understand what it means.
If the one who is in you is not the same who was in John’s audience in the verse above, then you have not overcome the world, because he might not be greater than he who is in the world.
Who is it that was in them? It was Jesus the Messiah or the Christ. Meaning that they identified with the finished works of Christ, and so were sinless. This is the kind of understanding that can provoke you into finding the most honorable ways how to live in Christ.
When you accept the finished works of Christ, it automatically changes your identity to a perfect person due to the perfection of Christ. And this automatically gives you the authority of Christ, which is above all other authorities.
If he that is in you is some Jesus who did not succeed in taking away the sin of the world, then the world will overcome you simply by accusing you of sin. And that is the Jesus that is in most people today and not Jesus the Christ.
May you know Jesus Christ in you as the Messiah who finished the assignment and took away the sin of mankind permanently, in His holy name. Amen
