FALLING FROM GRACE

Galatians 5:4
(KJV) Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Mainstream Christianity teaches that “falling from grace” means to descend from a state of divine favour into what they call sin. But this is by no means biblical.

On the contrary, the apostle Paul in our opening verse, spells it very clearly, that falling from grace specifically means trying to be made holy or righteous by fulfilling the obligations of the law.

According to Romans 4:4-5, no one earns God’s righteousness, but people can only obtain it freely when they no longer rely on their own works, but believe in the One who powerfully declares the ungodly to be righteous in His eyes.

Righteousness is a gift, and that is the highest expression of grace. Therefore, to fall from grace, will literally simply mean to reject God’s gracious gift of righteousness, while trying to work out your own. Ponder…

Grace is God’s expression of His unconditional love for mankind. A vain struggle to obtain righteousness by works is the rejection of God’s gift of righteousness – and that is falling from grace.

May you never fall from grace, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
