Today’s Devotional…
Many religious folks who do not understand the Law or the Prophets, have a very difficult time interpreting the statement that Jesus made in the verse above.
Some think that Jesus was endorsing the prophets, while approving the continuation of the law. But no, He clearly said He came to fulfill it, but comparing the fulfillment of both to their abolition. Ponder…
To “fulfill” the law and the prophets actually meant to bring both to an end satisfactorily.
In Matthew 11:13, Jesus said: “All the prophets and the law prophesied until John”, meaning that there would be no need for both the law and the prophets after that.
To understand how Jesus “fulfilled” the law and the prophets, you must first of all understand what the law and the prophets stood for…
The Law was simply meant to reveal the hidden sinful nature of all mankind pending imminent death, while the Prophets foretold the coming of the Messiah to take away the sin of mankind. Simple.
So, Jesus coming to take away the sin of the world, fulfilled both the law and the prohibited in that singular act of death on the cross of Calvary.
Now, if the law was to reveal the sinful nature of mankind and to proclaim a death sentence over all men, and, Jesus came and died as all sinful men, has the law not been FULFILLED? (For, according to the law, the wages of sin, in death)
Also, if the prophets proclaimed the salvation of all men by the Messiah, and the death of Jesus Christ actually liberated all men from sin, is that not the fulfillment of the prophets?
Jesus is the fulfillment and end of the Law and the Prophets. Pender…
May the Holy Spirit grant you understanding, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
