Today’s Devotionalโฆ
The crossing of the Red Sea was a crossing from bondage into liberty. It marked the end of slavery for the Israelites and the beginning of autonomy.
This was not just about the Israelites but a typology of the translation of humanity from the bondage of sin in Adam to liberty and righteousness in Christ.
The “Egyptians” who could not cross together with the Israelites signify the sins of men that could not accompany man after the cross.
Just as the sea let all the Israelites go through safely but stopped all the Egyptians, the cross of Christ let all sinful mankind go through it but stopping all their sin on it.
Colossians 2:14 reveals that the handwriting of ordinances that were against the sinful man, was taken out of their way by Christ and nailed to His cross.
This simply reveals that no sin crossed over into the New Creation, confirming the words of John the Baptist that Jesus was the Lamb of God who was to take away all the sin of the world.
Looking at the Red Sea, Moses prophesied about the “salvation of the LORD.” While the Israelites saw a sea in front of them, Moses was pointing to the cross in front of all mankind at the fullness of time.
If the Egyptians had crossed together with the Israelites, they would have remained in bondage even in a foreign land. Similarly, if sin had passed through the cross of Christ, sin would have remained the master of man even after the resurrection.
This event in history was a mystery concealing the salvation of mankind at the coming of Christ. No Egyptian crossed the sea, so no sin passed through the cross.
However, just as free Israelites continued to live in bondage in the wilderness, free men today continue to live in bondage in Christ. Ponderโฆ
Men and brethren, your “Egyptians” are not here anymore; in other words, sin is no longer in you, so stop living in bondage to sin, but submit yourself to your new master – righteousness.
May the Holy Spirit give you the wisdom you need to live a life of liberty in righteousness, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
