Today’s Devotional…
The Israelites thought they could please God by offering animal sacrifices to Him, but God rejected these sacrifices.
No matter how sincere they could be, or how much more they could sacrifice, God would still reject their sacrifice simply because they were not giving “the acceptable sacrifice”
The acceptable sacrifice is the sacrifice God accepts and not necessarily the one men accept even if they are “sincere”. And instead of finding out what God’s acceptable sacrifice was, the law, for a long time, prescribed many strange sacrifices which were never acceptable to God.
Little did the Israelites know. But Hebrews 10:6 reveals that God never had any pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin.
So, what was the “acceptable sacrifice” according to God? Jesus Christ – the true Lamb, without blemish and without spot.
See 1Peter 1:19:
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
No sacrifice from man could ever be acceptable to God for the remission of sin. The only required sacrifice was the blood of Jesus Christ, which men did not have.
Jesus Christ, on behalf of man, offered His blood to God as an eternal atonement for sin, and God accepted it wholeheartedly.
Even though this sacrifice did not come from the sinful man, it was before God, the acceptable sacrifice for the sin of the world, whether men accepted it or not.
God alone knew the acceptable sacrifice for sin, He received it, accepted it, and His anger against mankind ceased. It was not because sinful men pleased Him, but because He was satisfied with the sacrifice of Christ. Ponder…
May the Holy Spirit reveal Jesus Christ to you as the only acceptable sacrifice for sin that was accepted some two thousand years ago, in His holy name. Amen
