Today’s Devotional…
For generations, the Israelites offered several animals in sacrifice to God hoping that this could earn them the forgiveness of sins, but they did not really know what the lamb without spots and without blemish actually meant.
God, talking to Moses and his brother Aaron in Exodus 12:5, while they were still in Egypt, asked that each household of the Israelites sacrifice a lamb without blemish, a male of the first year, taken out from their sheep or goats.
They were to put the blood of these lambs on their doorposts to escape the wrath of God when the angel of death would pass over the land of Egypt that night. And indeed, they were preserved.
But you see, this whole scenario was only a “word” of prophecy concealed in a mystery of death too deep to be comprehended at the time.
At the fullness of time, God revealed to the Israelites and to the entire world that the countless lambs they had slaughtered for generations were nothing but shadows of a reality that was wrapped up in the man Jesus Christ.
This mystery was revealed at the end of the sinful world to the prophet John the Baptist, and he saw Jesus and proclaimed: “…The Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world…” Abba Father!
Jesus Christ was the spotless lamb without blemish. His blood was more meaningful than the blood of animals. His blood was not put on the doorposts of a select few, but on the doorpost of all mankind; and then the angel of sin passed over the world, sparing all men because of His precious blood. Abba Father!!!
If the blood of condemned animals could preserve the entire nation of Israel, then the blood of Jesus Christ (the true spotless lamb without blemish,) was capable of taking away the sin of the entire human race – and it did.
May the revelation of this mystery of the spotless lamb bring you into your portion of inheritance in the finished works of Christ, in His holy name. Amen
