Today’s Devotional…
Pontius Pilate did not really understand the mission of the Messiah, and for this reason, he tried many times and in many ways to “help” Jesus, but to no avail.
In fact, when God had not yet revealed the mystery of the Messiah to me (like many people right now who read this portion of scripture,) I thought Pilate was doing the right thing by preventing Jesus from being crucified by “wicked” people. Little did he know that it was for the purpose of this crucifixion that Jesus came.
Apostle Peter, when He made the same mistake by trying to prevent Jesus from dying, Jesus called him Satan, meaning The Adversary or Opposer. This was because He was trying to oppose the very mission Jesus came for, thinking he was acting in love.
Jesus’ blood was needed for the remission of the sins of all mankind. Even the crowd of Jews who are projected in this portion of scripture as wicked, were simply being used by God to prophesy that the blood of Jesus was never supposed to be only on their heads, but on their children’s heads as well as the heads of all mankind. Abba Father!
It was Jesus’ innocence in the eyes of the corrupt Roman officials that qualified Him to carry the guilt of all sinful mankind – this is what made Him the Lamb without blemish and without spot.
And it was His rejection by the Jews that made His crucifixion possible. You see, all things were working according to God’s salvation plan for mankind. Perfect!
Had Jesus been faultless in the eyes of the Israelites, He would have been disqualified as the Lamb of God who was to take away the sin of the world, and man would have remained in His sin till today. Ponder…
Thank God for His wisdom that was higher than both the Jews and the Romans at the time. Jesus was crucified, and His blood became the annihilating substance for the sins of all mankind. Abba Father!
May the Holy Spirit continue to grant you understanding, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
