Today’s Devotional…
When Jesus’ disciples expressly asked Him to increase their faith, He simply told them the seemingly great things they could achieve with the smallest faith if they had it; but He did not grant their request.
The reason was that the faith they were asking for was way too insignificant to afford anything of true kingdom value.
Also, the disciples did not, at the time, know the true value of faith nor the right thing to acquire with great faith if they had it. So, granting them faith as they requested would have been like giving a golden ring to a pig according to Mathew 7:6
While “moving mountains” was such a great deal at the time, it was, according to God, nothing compared to the salvation of one soul. So, instead of increasing their faith just to massage their egos for a while, Jesus decided to give them FULL FAITH in due time.
According to Hebrews 12:2, Jesus is the author and finisher of men’s faith. For this reason, Jesus decided to give the disciples the full package of faith at the end of His assignment, which was His death on the cross.
It was not the disciples who had faith; it was Jesus who had faith, and His faith was enough to grant righteousness to all men, according to Romans 3:22. This is the faith that Jesus made available for the disciples and not a mustard-seed-sized faith.
Having obtained such great faith, and being able to discern things that are of kingdom values, the disciples could do nothing less with faith than to buy the salvation of their souls, which was far greater than the drama of moving mountains.
Do you have faith? “Buy” the salvation of your soul, and believe in your perfection as a heritage in the finished works of Christ, in His holy name. Amen
