Today’s Devotional…
This is the story of the woman who was caught in the act of adultery. And according to the law of Moses, she was supposed to have been stoned to death in this scenario.
However, Jesus rescued her and gave her another opportunity to live again. But Jesus added something quite significant: “Go, and sin no more. Why?
Take note that Jesus did not say “Go, and commit adultery no more”, rather, He said, “sin no more.”
Sin covers a broader spectrum than adultery. And, at the time, no one could live without sin. So, what was Jesus communicating in this scenario?
The answer is “Accountability.” Jesus was projecting here that He would be taking responsibility for this second life that He had just given the woman (who would legally have been dead according to the law of Moses.)
This is the practice that the church was supposed to keep today. Pastors should be able to give an account of the lives of the people they have healed, delivered, or even raised from the dead.
For what is the glory in raising a man back to life who would in turn become a serial killer? What is the point of healing a wicked man who just needed strength to harm innocent children for example? Ponder…
If you cannot take responsibility for what comes after your prayer, you had better leave things take their natural course, or else, you would be found even fighting God. Ponder…
Jesus proclaimed words of grace over the woman, so she never sinned again. So, be careful what you ask for in prayers, if you cannot give an account afterwards.
May the Holy Spirit grant you deeper understanding, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
