Today’s Devotional…
What if Jesus gave up? What if He decided at some point to abandon the assignment? Have you ever pondered these questions?
Remember, Jesus had the power to end it all. Remember it was by His freewill that He accepted to suffer – He was not forced.
What if Jesus got exhausted, discouraged, or weary and decided to give up halfway on the journey? It is hard to imagine…
If Jesus had given up, all hope would have been lost forever. All men would still be sinners to this day, and the whole world would be doomed.
If Jesus had given up, it would be crystal clear to you today that all your efforts cannot earn you salvation. Oh yes, it wouldn’t matter whether you are good or evil, you would still be doomed. Ponder…
Listen, Jesus Christ is the subject and object of the gospel.
Until you analyze things from this perspective, you will never see that your effort doesn’t count when it comes to the Gospel or the salvation plan of God for humanity.
Before Jesus came, no man was saved, and if He failed (gave up) no man would be saved to this day.
Before Jesus came, many people obeyed all the 613 laws of Moses, yet nobody earned righteousness by that obedience.
If you eliminate the sacrifice of Jesus from history, all humanity (including you) is doomed.
The endurance of Jesus through all the shame, the pain, and even the cross, was not a down payment leaving part for you to complete in some future. The suffering and eventual death of Jesus Christ, was the full payment for sin.
No man can contribute to the payment for sin, not even for himself. If Jesus could not do it in full, your acceptance or denial of Him would be useless. If Jesus did not pay the full price for sin, your faith or unbelief would be useless.
Remember before Jesus paid the price for sin, there were men who “accepted” Him and others who denied Him; there were people who believed in Him and others who had unbelief. Regardless, all men were sinners.
This is just to prove to you that neither acceptance nor denial of Christ, neither faith nor unbelief, can earn a man salvation.
Thank God your Jesus did not give up. Hallelujah! Jesus endured the cross to be able to offer the free gift of salvation to all mankind.
The gospel of the salvation of mankind is not Christ plus your works, it is Christ plus NOTHING. That is why we call the gospel: the FINISHED works of Christ (alone)! If you still see your effort in your salvation, then you have been taught “another gospel” Ponder…
May the eyes of your understanding be enlightened, and may you never give up in your quest for truth, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
