Today’s Devotional
This is a reference to the parable of the ten virgins; five of whom were wise, and the other five foolish. They all had “oil” at the beginning but the five foolish virgins didn’t have enough to carry them throughout the “night”.
That was an allegory pointing to the Christians of today. You see, in every church service, or to every audience that the word of God comes, there are two categories of people: the “wise” and the “foolish”.
The oil in our contemporary context is the unadulterated word of God. While “the wise” take enough for the “rainy days”, the foolish (or what I call “the fair-weather Christians”) only take enough for the sunny day. Language!
Jesus, explaining The Parable Of The Sower to His disciples in Matthew 13:21, said: “Shortly after he hears it (the word), troubles and persecutions come because of the kingdom message he received. Then he quickly falls away, for the truth didnโt sink deeply into his heart” (TPT)
The oil in the days of the virgins was olive oil. It was used as fuel for lamps,
for healing the sick, and for anointing the head and body at feasts. Did you see that?
The “oil” (that is, the word of God) in you was God’s wisdom in making provision for life to keep shining, for your healing in times of sickness, and to anoint your head and body as you celebrate successes every season.
Unfortunately, the “foolish” ignore and reject the undiluted word of God in the quest for prophecies, miracles, prayers, or deliverance from men of God all across the world.
Remember, the oil in the lamp of the wise was “not enough” to be shared with the foolish. Ever wonder why the numerous prayers, prophecies, and deliverances you receive never work? Now you know!
The word of God in another man’s heart cannot be a light in your own life. The confidence (from the word of God) in another man’s heart, cannot cast away doubts in your heart. Faith cannot be shared, it comes by hearing and keeping what you heard personally.
Remember Lazarus the poor man? Yes, his “oil” while in the bosom of Abraham was not enough to be shared with The Rich Man. Ponder…
Make a personal decision today to get some undiluted “oil”(gospel) in your “lamp”(soul) from bow onward, so that at all times, you will always have enough to face the hurdles of life with ease.
May your fire burn from today and never quench, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
