Today’s Devotional…

Think about it; if there were no laws to break, would the transgression (or breaking) of the law have existed? The answer is “No”.

According to Moses, breaking any of the laws He gave was called the transgression of the law or simply sin.

But Moses only introduced his laws about 2,500 years after the creation of man. These laws did not come to tell men how to live henceforth, but rather to denounce their way of living, or to accuse them of the things they had already been doing for 2.5 millennia.

Had Moses not brought the law, the whole world would have remained “righteous” according to Him, since no one could sin without breaking the law.

And if men had not broken the law, they never would have felt any guilt, and consequently, they would never have seen any need for salvation. Ponder…

Paul explained this clearly using himself as an example in Romans 7:8-11.

But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

Without a clear understanding of the purpose of the law, the gospel of Christ would always remain a mystery. But the law revealed sin, so that Christ may take it away. Ponder…

May the eyes of your understanding be enlightened, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
