Today’s Devotional…
Did you know that you are a servant of righteousness? Yes, you are in Christ, and you are not only a servant, but a slave of righteousness.
The Greek word translated as “servant” in our opening verse is the word “douloō” which means to reduce to bondage, or metaphorically, to give oneself wholly to another’s needs and service.
This tells you that as a servant (or slave) of righteousness, you have no choice but to be righteous. Yes, slaves don’t actually have choices because they are bound by their masters to do only as it is dictated to them.
Now, back to the question: “Are you faithful?” This is particularly critical because it will determine the smoothness of your stay under righteousness in Christ.
As a faithful servant of righteousness, you are rewarded with all the good things the Master can give; but as an unfaithful servant (trying to escape righteousness,) you will be caught, punished severely, and returned to righteousness! Oops! Don’t miss it; you will be returned to RIGHTEOUSNESS by all means! That is non-negotiable!
In Christ, you are trapped in the bondage of righteousness just as in Adam, men were trapped in the bondage of sin. Until this reality sinks into your inner man, you will not cease to face difficulties in Christ.
Being a faithful servant of righteousness, is letting your natural energy flow. Yes, you were naturally created righteous, so living righteous is the most effortless way of life you can ever get. Ponder…
May you become a faithful servant of righteousness from today, so that you may get the reward that comes with that, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
