By “the scriptures” in the verse above, Paul was referring to the Old Testament, as the New Testament did not exist at the time.
Looking at it today, we can see that several portions of the Old Testament mentioned (directly or indirectly) that the Messiah would come to die on behalf of sinful mankind.
One of those scriptures is Isaiah 53:5, which says: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
The most interesting thing about all this is that Jesus already DIED, and the purpose of His death has been fulfilled.
This means that the sins of the world were indeed obliterated in fulfillment of the Scriptures.
So, to say that sin still remains today contradicts the truth according to the Scriptures.
Therefore, we maintain, according to Apostle Paul in our opening verse, that Jesus died for the sins of the world and that the men who live today live in the perfection of Christ.
