Today’s Devotionalโฆ
Many people who read this encounter between Jesus and Peter only focus on the miracle of the great catch, but often miss the deeper mysteries hidden in the story.
In the 11th verse of the same chapter, it is recorded, “And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed Him.” Wow!
Now, come to think of it: a group of young fishermen go fishing deep into the ocean, toil all night but catch nothing, and after finally having a great catch at the sea-shore in the morning, LEAVE IT ALL AND FOLLOW A MAN. Who does that except someone who saw something greater than “fish”?
Yes, while other fishermen were celebrating the fish, Peter, James, and John, who witnessed the miracle firsthand, were celebrating something bigger than fish! They were celebrating the Miracle Worker!
Listen, just like all the other miracles Jesus performed, Jesus’ intention in this story was not to give the fishermen fish, but to use the fish as a sign pointing to the “Messiah” Ponderโฆ
Today, instead of focusing on Jesus, many people a busy celebrating the “fish”. Yes, people today pay more attention to miracles than the Miracle Worker. They are like the foolish fishermen who stayed to gather fish and sell, (and nothing was ever mentioned again about them.)
When you focus on Jesus, signs and wonders follow you, and give you a heritage in Christ, but when you follow miracles, you become irrelevant before you know it.
May the Holy Spirit help you stay relevant in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
