Today’s Devotionalโฆ
To be wounded as in the context above, means to be defiled, polluted, or desecrated through severe beatings and piercing. And to be bruised means to be broken or crushed, willingly.
So, in confirmation of this prophecy, Jesus was so mercilessly beaten by very muscular soldiers that His entire body (front and back) was desecrated with wounds that caused Him to bleed from almost every spot on His body. Imagine thatโฆ
His muscles were so crushed by the immense force with which the Roman soldiers used in flogging Him, that there was no strength left in Him to carry the cross.
Several eyewitness accounts, historical records, and archeological facts attest to the intense and unbearable sufferings that Jesus underwent. So, yes; Jesus suffered indeed. But why?
The prophet Isaiah says in our opening verse that those sufferings would be for THEIR INIQUITIES (and NOT ours). And God is a God of Justice!
Remember that everyone born after Adam was a sinner (even when they had not eaten the same fruit Adam and Eve ate). This was because Adam and Eve had already been corrupted by sin when they began to multiply. That is why it was concluded that “all had sinned”
And just like every sickness left untreated can lead to death, the wages of sin was equally death. So man’s true sickness that cast a death sentence over all men (whether young or old) was sin and not necessarily diseases.
So the countless stripes on the body of Jesus that so badly disfigured Him even beyond recognition, were an indication of the healing of ALL sinful mankind – healing from their true sickness which was sin.
Now that it has been proven and documented beyond every reasonable doubt that this Jesus actually suffered, we can therefore only conclude without any ambiguity that man had long been healed from sin, in the sufferings of Christ.
The continuous preaching of sin and the perpetual accusation of men of sin, is simply an insinuation that Jesus Christ suffered in vain. But GOD FORBID! He paid the price for sin IN FULL!
May the Holy Spirit open the eyes of your understanding to see all mankind through the stripes, bruises, and wounds of Jesus Christ, in His holy name. Amen
