Today’s Devotional…
This prophecy was confirmed by the apostle Peter in
1Peter 2:25 when he wrote: “For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls”
Unlike Prophet Isaiah who spoke with some ambiguity, Peter clearly identified the One on whom the iniquity of all men had been laid as Jesus Christ – the Bishop of the souls of men.
In 2 Peter 1:19, the apostle affirmed that they also had a more sure word of prophecy; since they had seen with their very eyes, the Messiah whom the prophets only saw in visions.
In our opening verse, the incomprehensible love of God is expressed in that, while all men went astray by their own devices, God laid their iniquities on someone else, and that is Jesus Christ.
In confirmation of the same prophecy, it is recorded in Titus 2:14: “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works”
What can we say then, that man’s efforts earned him his righteousness? No, it was God through Jesus Christ, who gave man righteousness as a gift, and created a foundation for righteousness for all men.
All we owe God today is thanksgiving.
May you give him thanks for the gift of righteousness, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
