Many Christians today limit their beliefs to the fact that Jesus Christ saved sinners. Well, whether you believe that or not, your unbelief cannot undo the sufferings and eventual death of Christ.
So, man is still free from sin regardless of his opinion because salvation from sin was Jesus’ independent assignment (which He accomplished.)
However, there is an aspect of believing that can determine how you live in Christ, whether free or in bondage; and that is believing that Jesus is the end of the law.
If you study the scriptures and understand what the Messiah was supposed to come and accomplish, you will understand that Jesus Christ, being the Messiah, should have been the end of the law.
Without this understanding, you will keep on struggling to practice the law but you will never find rest, because the purpose of the law is to reveal sin and never to resolve it.
When you say you believe in Jesus, what is it about Him that you believe? Your belief should be that He fulfilled the law that said “the soul that sinneth must die”
Jesus died as all sinful mankind to fulfil the law of sin and death. And then, He gave the gift of righteousness to all men. If you rightly believe this, then you should believe that Jesus Christ is indeed the end of the law.
When you say you believe in Christ but still uphold the law, how do you explain His death?
Jesus Christ is the end of the law. If you believe this, you will experience and live in liberty; but if not, you will remain in the bondage of the law despite being given freedom in Christ.
May the Holy Spirit grant you understanding in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
