Today’s Devotional…
This is one of those portions of scripture that leaves many Bible Scholars and Christians begging for answers. For they cannot just understand why a Holy God should ask a holy prophet to marry a filthy prostitute – and he did!
Well, the reason is that, contrary to the misunderstanding by the Israelites at the time (who thought they were holy simply because they had the law), God actually saw all men on earth to be the same in His eyes.
From God’s viewpoint, the prophet Hosea was as sinful as the prostitute Gomer. Not for any act either of them committed, but for the sin that Adam sinned, which was transmitted to all men, whether Jews or Gentiles, prophets or prostitutes. Ponder…
In the Hebrew language, the name “Hosea” means “Salvation”, and the name “Gomer” means “complete”. God was simply saying here that the salvation of mankind would only be completed when both Jews and Gentiles identify as one sinful body so that the whole world could be saved through Jesus Christ. Abba Father!
When the scriptures said all had sinned, nobody was excluded. That is why it was written that even those who did not sin in the similitude of Adam’s sin were also guilty of sin.
God was making sure that when salvation comes, no one would boast. For salvation was never to come by works but by the work of Jesus Christ for all sinful mankind.
And 2000 years ago, the salvation of man was indeed completed. Yes, whether Jews or Gentiles, dirty or clean, black or white; Jesus Christ took away the sin of all.
Even today, God only sees you from the standpoint of Christ. Yes, God does not qualify you based on the good things you have done, but based on the one good thing Jesus did; He single-handedly paid the price of sin, in FULL!
Because of Jesus Christ, God sees you faultless and loves you boundlessly. May this gracious gift from God in Christ Jesus, reignite the love nature within you, so that you can reflect the divine nature of your loving Father God on this earth, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
