Today’s Devotional…
The only way to prophesy is to consecrate yourself and let God speak through you about the Messiah. This is how all the prophets of the Old Testament prophesied. They let God use them. That’s all they did.
This was Jeremiah’s ordeal in Jer 20:9 as it is recorded: “Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay”
This means that a prophet could even prophesy against his own interest since his personal opinion was always willingly suppressed for God to speak.
Many prophets of old never even understood at the time of their prophecy, the actual interpretation of the prophecy. Some prophets even lived and died without understanding what they did or wrote down.
This was the case of Jonah, who probably didn’t understand why he was in the belly of a fish for three days and three nights until much later when Jesus Himself quoted his ordeal as a reference to His death and resurrection.
All the prophets of old only had one thing in common: they trusted God. So whether it made sense to them or not, whether it favored them or not; they just had to do and say as God commanded.
And guess what, EVERYTHING that God did and said through the prophets of old was just a hidden code to talk about the Messiah who was to bring salvation to the entire world.
The prophets had no right to give a personal interpretation, not even to their own prophecies. Only God knew what He meant in all prophetic utterances.
And according to God’s interpretation, all the prophecies of old were pointing to the man Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Messiah and the Savior of the world from sin. (Luke 24:44, John 1:45)
May the Holy Spirit reveal all prophetic mysteries about the Christ to you with all clarity, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
