Today’s Devotional…
Shadows are evidence to prove that a reality exists somewhere. Shadows in themselves are not real and cannot be handled.
The multiple burnt-offerings and sin-offerings the Israelites offered year after year could not satisfy God’s justice even though the law required them to be offered.
All of these sacrifices were simply shadows revealed by the light of God to continually remind those who practiced the law of their sin nature and their imperfection.
What the law prescribed as a means for justification of men was only a shadow, pointing to a reality that would permanently deal with the sin of all mankind.
The sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary some 2000 years ago was that reality the law pointed to.
Jesus’ blood was different from the blood of animals which was required to appease God only for a year, after which His anger would be kindled again. The blood of Jesus was enough to annihilate sin FOREVER.
Today, animal sacrifices for sin have ended, but the price Christ paid has been rejected. So, Christians continuously confess their sins hopelessly, while struggling to work out their salvation through the same law that was rejected as shadows. Ponder…
May the Holy Spirit open your eyes to see the reality in the finished works of Christ so that you can be liberated from the hopeless shadows of the law, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
