Today’s Devotional…

In John 12:24, Jesus said: “Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.”

In our opening verse, the apostle Paul employs a similar allegory: those who were planted with Christ, were equally resurrected with Him.

Yes, for if they were together with Christ, then they died together with Him in the crucifixion. But as a seed, it wasn’t supposed to end in the grave. Christ had to resurrect again with a new body – the new creation.

We know that Christ died and that He also rose from the dead. Since this is true, it will also be true of anyone who was together with Him somehow.

When Jesus was on His way to the cross, He drew all men into Himself and “planted” them in the likeness of His death, in hope to see them “germinate” in the likeness of His resurrection.

Those who were planted together with Christ were planted in fertile ground, and they grew into a new creature in His resurrection. God is a good farmer. Ponder…

May the eyes of your understanding be enlightened in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
