Todayโs Devotionalโฆ
Many churches today directly or indirectly uphold an almost unlimited number of laws that one must strictly observe to earn some hope of salvation or โgoing to heavenโ.
The pastors in these churches get very offended when they hear one of their followers claim that they are righteous (meaning that they are keeping all the laws). This is when they dig up new laws just to make sure their followers remain guilty.
Many churches only pretend to give you liberty publicly, whereas they are secretly putting you in serious bondage, holding your conscience hostage with repeated messages that have no foundation in the finished works of Christ.
They preach to make you think that you must have sinned in word, thought, or action. If you escape that, they add that you must have sinned knowingly or UNKNOWINGLY. Seriously, unknowingly? How do you repent from something you donโt even know?
No, the purpose of the emphasis on these heinous laws is never to set you free but to keep you in a perpetual state of guilt and vulnerability.
Just like the teachers of the law that Jesus was addressing in our opening verse, many of our law preachers today are guilty of the very laws they are heaping on their followers to obey.
If these preachers of the law who are consecrated to the things of God can still not boast of a sinless life, why should they continue to heap the burden on babes in the faith?
This problem of โpreaching what you cannot practiceโ is not new, and that is the problem Jesus came to solve. Jesus came to FULFILL the law. Yes, Jesus Christ was the end of the law for righteousness for man. The choice is yours to believe. (Rom 10:4)
Listen, there is a superior life to that of struggling to obey an innumerable number of ambiguous laws; it is living with the full consciousness of the finished works of Christ and your inheritance in Him. (Ask questions)
May the Holy Spirit free you from the bondage of the law into the glorious liberty of the sons of God, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
