The greatest expression of love according to Jesus Christ Himself is for a man to lay down his life for his friends, which is exactly what He did on the cross of Calvary.
John 15:13 records it: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” Now that Jesus already expressed this greatest form of love, men can only express the lesser magnitude of love which is GIVING!
One of the most universal ways to prove your love and conviction is through giving. Whether it is your time, or your substance.
Giving is not just a proof of love but also of your belief. Our opening verse says that the Galatians were willing to pluck even their own eyes to give to Paul if it were possible. Can you imagine that?
What could Paul have been telling these people that they were willing to pluck out their very eyes to give him? The answer is simple: The same gospel of Christ.
Paul was not preaching “giving”, he was preaching the same Christ. But naturally, when men believe the gospel, they give generously for the works of ministry just to prove that they have believed.
Mat 6:21says: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” And when you have already given your heart to something through your belief, you cannot hold back your substance anymore.
Giving for the works of ministry is one of the only ways you can prove your conviction for the gospel you have come to believe.
