THE WAY TO THE CROSS

𝗟𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝟮𝟰:𝟮𝟲 𝗞𝗝𝗩 𝗢𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗿𝘆?

Today’s Devotional..

This is a vivid, truthful description of Christ’s crucifixion, based on confirmed scientific research:

After being betrayed and arrested, Jesus was taken to the Roman authorities. He was sentenced to death by crucifixion, one of the most excruciating and humiliating punishments ever devised.

First, He was scourged with a Roman flagrum — a whip with multiple leather strands tipped with sharp bone or metal. Each lash tore open His skin, shredding muscle and leaving His back a mass of raw, torn flesh. Blood poured from countless open wounds.

They mocked Him with a crown of thorns, pressed harshly onto His scalp, driving thorns deep and causing further bleeding.

Forced to carry the heavy wooden crossbeam through Jerusalem’s streets, He collapsed under its weight, weakened from blood loss and pain. Simon of Cyrene was compelled to help carry it the rest of the way.

At Golgotha, the soldiers nailed Him to the cross: iron spikes through His wrists (likely striking the median nerve, causing intense burning pain) and through His feet. The rough wood scraped against His flayed back with every movement.

As He hung, the weight of His body pulled downward, making it increasingly impossible to breathe. To draw a breath, He had to push up on the nails in His feet, grinding raw tissue against wood, only to sag again in exhaustion. This cycle of agony went on for 6 hours.

After He died, a soldier thrust a spear into His side to confirm His death, releasing a flow of blood and water — a sign that His heart and lungs had failed.

Nothing on earth can compare to this horror. Not the laws of Moses, and definitely not the newly prescribed laws by your pastor.

There is absolutely NOTHING you can add to the price Jesus paid to make it complete. In fact, any personal effort to add works to your salvation is outright blasphemy and an insult to the person of Christ, because you are just in other words telling Him that all the sufferings were not enough for you, even when God Almighty said they were enough.

The death of Christ was a public, graphic, humiliating, and torturous death meant to shock onlookers. And it was through this act of obedience unto death, that Jesus bore the sins of all humanity.

May you never think that Jesus did not feel the pain, may you never think that it was easy. And may you always remember that those sufferings were not in vain, but a complete payment for sin, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
