Today’s Devotional…
Which one came first, was it sin, or death?
We can find an answer in Corinthians 15:56 which says: “The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law”
According to this account, death comes as a result of sin. In other words, death is the salary one gets at the end after sinning.
And funny enough, it is appointed only once for men to die, which means, sin after death just doesn’t have a place. You cannot reverse the order.
In Ezekiel 18:4, the Bible says it is the soul that sins, that should die, and gives no room for sin after death.
Why is this reflection important? It is because Christianity holds that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world.
And if He died for the sins of the whole world, according to this understanding, it must have been at the end of all sin in the whole world, as recorded in Galatians 4:4
“…But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law…”, to die for the sins of all men that ever lived.
Now, if Jesus died for the sins of the world, that should have either brought an end to sin, or we should expect another “Christ” to come die for the new sins that were to be committed after the death of Jesus Christ. Ponder…
And if this were to be the case, the cycle would have had to continue as long as humans continue to live on earth at any given time. And though this may sound new or strange, this is exactly what the Israelites practiced as they continually offered animal sacrifices year after year to cover their sin, and then went back to sinning all over again. Ponder…
This is clearly recorded in Hebrews 9:26: “For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself”
In conclusion, sin after the death of Christ is simply impossible. Sin ended with the death of Christ, and a new life of righteousness was introduced eternally for all mankind. Don’t try living a life of sin in a world of righteousness, for it will lead you into diverse troubles.
May the Holy Spirit grant you understanding, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
