Peter and John did not actually mean that they had no silver or gold to give the crippled beggar, but they were simply pointing to the fact that mammon was responsible for his predicament.
For what comforted the man to accept his condition as a crippled day after day was the “silver and gold” that people gave him everyday. If Peter and John had given him money as he expected, he would still be crippled.
Many times when you think money is helping you, mammon, the God of wealth, is simply using the money to bribe and blind you so that you can accept a lower standard of your life, thinking it is the best.
The moment you place God over money, you have won the battle of life. Yes, you don’t need to be poor to look up to God.
Do not make God your last resort after money has failed. Maturity in Christ is when your reflexes point you to God first before money, even when you have money.
Unfortunately, many believers today call on God with their lips but trust money with their hearts. That is why they will prioritize any opportunity to make money over the opportunity to call on God any time. Sad…
Luke 16:13 says: “No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon”
Most of the unresolved challenges you face today are simply there because in your heart, you believe more in money as a solution than in God. Ponder…
May your focus never be on gold and silver that can only make you accept your ugly status quo, but on Jesus Christ who can get you where money can never do, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
