Today’s Devotional…

Who is perfect? At first glance, many purported observers of the law would say, “No, no one is perfect.” Well, they would be right seeing that they erroneously seek perfection through the law.

But was the law even intended to make a man perfect? No, the law was rather intended to reveal the imperfection of man and condemn all men. (Rom 3:19-20)

But when you talk of perfection, you must first of all identify the imperfection that warrants the perfection. Ponder…

Our opening verse talks of the communal knowledge of Christ that brings once-sinful men to perfection. This was definitely not the perfection of man’s behavior, attitude, or perhaps health. It was perfection from the sin mentality or sin consciousness.

Colossians 1:28 reiterates this perfection recording that we preach Jesus Christ, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

You see, the perfect man is Jesus Christ. Perfect not in character but in sinlessness by virtue of His holy conception, otherwise known as the incarnation.

It is this perfection that we call righteousness, which became the gift that Jesus Christ gave to all mankind completely free of charge.

The word “perfect” in our opening verse comes from the Greek word “Teleios”, which means: finished, or, wanting nothing necessary to completeness. This is the perfect description of the finished works of Christ!

So, yes, you are perfect in Christ according to the gospel. When you study and eventually grasp the full knowledge of Christ, you become awakened to this long-standing perfection which is your divine heritage in the finished works of Christ. Abba Father!

My sincere prayer for you is that the eyes of your understanding should be enlightened so that you may know Jesus as the Christ, understand the gospel, and live according to your knowledge of your perfection in Him, in His holy name. Amen
