Today’s Devotional…
Jesus Himself speaking in the book of Luke 22:29, told His audience that Jonah was a sign to their generation. What did He mean?
The story of Jonah carried such deep mysteries that even the prophet (Jonah) himself appeared not to have caught at him time.
Yes, most prophets in the Old Testament were only called to obey God and not necessarily obligated to understand or subjectively interpret even their own prophecies or actions.
When Jonah asked the sailors in his boat to throw him overboard into the raging sea, He knew he was going to die, and the anger of God which manifested as the raging sea would be calmed.
This actually signified that when the Messiah would finally come, the very instant of His death would cause God’s anger against all sinful mankind to cease FOREVER.
Just as Jonah who wilfully gave his life to his fellow sailors, it was Jesus who wilfully laid down His life for mankind; it was Jesus who said: “Into your hands, I commit my spirit” willingly.
The death of Christ marked the end of God’s anger against sinful mankind because it met the satisfaction of God’s justice. For if the wages of sin was death, and Jesus died the death of all sinful men, then God’s anger had to automatically cease.
This is the mystery that was hidden in what would have been termed Jonah’s first suicide attempt, now revealed to you today, to clearly show that Jesus Christ was the sole message in The Prophets and The Law. Ponder…
May the eyes of your understanding be enlightened to grasp this mystery so that you can begin to enjoy your fellowship with God from today, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
