Today’s Devotional…

Abraham is the father of faith, and that makes him the father of righteousness.

You may ask: “But how can a man be righteous apart from Christ?” Well, Abraham’s faith was in Christ (the progenitor of all righteousness)

Jesus Christ Himself confirmed this in John 8:56 when He said “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.” Yes, Jesus Christ was the motivation of Abraham’s faith.

So, what Abraham saw was righteousness and not land. And as God had promised him, “as far as he could see,” it was given to him.

Yes, in Genesis 13:14-15, God told Abraham: “Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever”

While this portion of scripture depicts Abraham looking at some fields of land, he was indeed looking beyond the physical, where he found a “Land” that could accommodate him, his seed, and even the rest of the world forever.

That land was Jesus Christ in whom we now live, move, and have our being. For how do you think God was going to bless THE WHOLE WORLD through Abraham alone? Now, you know – it was through this universal “Land”
Abba Father!

Even Joshua, who took the people of Israel into the so-called “promised land,” did not give them rest, because that was indeed not the “land” God had promised Abraham.  For this reason, it was recorded that “there remaineth yet a sabbath rest for God’s people” (Heb 4:8-4)

Even Jesus, speaking in Luke 20:37-38, affirmed that the fathers of faith: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were not dead. And the Apostle Paul, in Hebrews 11:39 & 40, confirmed that Abraham finally entered “The Land” – which is the Christ in which we all now live today. Ponder…

Now, if you claim that Abraham is your
father, then you should understand that righteousness is your inheritance by faith and not works.

The “blessings of Abraham” you sing about, is a man – the man Jesus Christ. So, if Abraham’s blessings are truly yours, then you are in Christ, having a portion of inheritance in His finished works – that is righteousness.  Ponder, ponder, ponder…

May the Holy Spirit grant you understanding, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
