Yes, you have sung it in songs that Jesus is the Rock of Ages; true, but did you know that He is also the Rock of Offence and a stumbling block?

Let me explain.

It was the prophet Isaiah who first mentioned that the One who would bring the gospel message of salvation would be a rock of offence.

So, how is Jesus the Rock of Offence? It is simply by giving men righteousness without passing through the due procedure prescribed by the law of Moses.

Nothing offends an advocate of the law like grace. To see men who, according to them, are not qualified, being freely granted the status of righteousness, greatly offends them.

Even today, they continue to stumble over Jesus as they attempt to reinstate the laws of Moses (for Christ is the end of the law)

If the gospel offends you, it is simply a fulfillment of prophecy, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it, because your offender is Christ Himself.

All the things that men only hoped to get by their works under the law of Moses, have been freely given to the men in Christ without a single charge.

If you are offended by the simplicity of the gospel, then you are still trapped under the law. Jesus Christ is the Rock of Offence, because He is the end of the Law of Moses.

May the Holy Spirit be your guide, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
