One of the most frequently preached subjects in Christianity is LOVE; yet, love is the least practiced amongst Christians. Just how difficult can loving be? And what is this love?
Many Christians (and even some preachers,) have given up on love and have focused on other divine qualities to validate their spirituality. But our opening verse proves them wrong; and says love is the greatest.
At the beginning of this chapter, the apostle Paul states that even if one could speak with the tongues of men and of angels, have the gift of prophecy, understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; have faith enough to move mountains, or even give all he has to the poor, and offer his body to be burned, he is a useless noisy gong worth nothing; if he has no love.
One cannot help but ponder what this love really is: for why would one go as far as giving everything he has to the poor, and even offering his body to be burned if not for love? That simply tells you how impure and corrupted human motives can be.
But yes, you surely get it now. Love is deeper than what you thought it was. It is much more than just what you practice. Love is a person; love is God Himself, physically expressed as Jesus Christ.
In confirmation, the apostle of love in 1John 4:8 makes it even more glaring: “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
This tells you that to love in this context is to share the divine identity of the God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is the baptism recorded in Matthew 28:19.
Only God possesses genuine unconditional love. And He has shed it abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which He also gave us. God has also made us a home in Christ where we live, move, and have our being. (Rom 5:5, Act 27:28)
God is love, and love is in you as you and you in love. Awake to love which is your reality, and let the world see God through you. Whatever stands in your life, remember, love is the greatest because you are the greatest!
May the eyes of your understanding be enlightened in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
