Today’s Devotional…
Life sometimes appears funny and unbalanced from the viewpoint of religious men.
Religion is heartless and irrational; it only cares about its laws and rituals, and not necessarily the people it controls.
In the above text, religious folk who did not question a young man’s blindness from birth chose to question his restored sight simply because the act that led to the regaining of his sight violated their religious beliefs. Sad.
Religion was more interested in determining that the healer was a sinner than in celebrating the miracle. This is the position religion has always held.
Today, religion is more interested in upholding the sinfulness of men than in celebrating their righteousness, simply because the simplicity of righteousness violates the complexity of their law.
In our opening text, the young man had been blind all his life, right before their very eyes, and they did nothing about it; not only because they did not have the power, but also because they did not care about him as much as they cared about their laws. What a shame.
Similarly today, the same religion that attempted and failed 613 times to solve the sin problem chooses to question (and reject) the free gift of righteousness that comes from Christ simply because it bypasses their standards.
You see, religion has no solution to the sin problem, yet it cannot accept the free offer from Christ. Listen, religion is heartless; it doesn’t care about you; it only advocates for its principles and rituals. Ponder…
However, the young man in our opening verse gave a resounding response that should be your position from today: “Whether this man is a sinner or not, I don’t know; all I know is that once I was blind, but now I can see.” Period!
In other words, “When I was blind, it didn’t matter whether the person who made me blind was a sinner or not; now that I can see, why does it matter? But if you really want to know, ask Jesus.” That is wisdom and justice.
Listen, if the descendants of Adam who did not eat the fruit were born sinners in God’s eyes for no reason, why should it bother you that the humans born after the resurrection of Christ appear perfect before God? If you have questions, ask Jesus. He is the One who took away the sin of the world.
May the gentle Spirit of God deliver us all from religious bondage in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
