Today’s Devotional…
There is no place in scripture where it is recorded that some sins are less weighty than others.
According to Jesus in Mat 5:19, whoever breaks the least of the commandments will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. This simply means that none of the laws was more important than the other, making all sins of the same magnitude.
Christians today have categorized sin from “simple lies” (which are considered small sins) to more complex offenses like murder (which are considered bigger sins.) Rational as this may sound, it is simply NOT scriptural.
There is NO small or inferior sin in the Bible. According to scripture, breaking what you consider a minor law is sin, as grievous as breaking the laws you consider major. Simply put there is no small sin. Ponder…
Today, Christians feel more comfortable telling a lie than fornicating or committing murder, forgetting that the consequences for both according to the law are the same – death.
The good news is, the provision that was made for sin was the same – both for what you call small sins and big sins.
The wages (or salary) for sin was death non-negotiable, and since Jesus Christ died in the place of all sinful mankind, the justice of God was satisfied.
If your basis for justification before God is anything other than the fact that Jesus Christ paid the price for sin, then you can never attain perfection.
Justifying yourself before God by classifying your sins as “small” can’t take you anywhere. If the finished works of Jesus Christ are not enough for you, then you are simply doomed.
May the Holy Spirit grant you a deeper understanding of the justification that comes from Christ and Christ alone, in His holy name. Amen
