Today’s Devotionalโฆ
In Mar 8:34, Jesus said that if anyone desired to come after Him, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Him. Today, many Christians consider every little challenge they face as “their cross”. Laughable.
Our opening verse says Jesus carried His own cross to a place called the skull. The name alone should tell you what He was expecting at the destination – nothing short of death.
The least burden that Jesus bore when He was carrying that heavy wooden cross on His way to Golgotha was the cross itself. Beyond the cross, Jesus carried the weight of the sin of the entire human race, from Adam to the last child that was born before that cross! Imagine thatโฆ
In fact, the weight of the cross was almost like a consolation to Jesus, compared to the sin He bore in His body, and the torture He received from the Roman soldiers, not to talk of the rejection from His own every people.
Jesus was so tortured that His body bled from almost every side, His every muscle ached, and His face was beyond recognition; yet He bore the shame and the pain of the cross willing even when He did not have to.
Wearing a nice little gold or silver cross on your neck is NOT “carrying the cross”. Jesus did not carry the cross on His neck, He carried it first on His back, and then the cross carried Him, in excruciating pain! Ponderโฆ
Listen, until you understand the totality of what Jesus went through from Gethsemane to Golgotha, you may never appreciate all what it cost God to pay for the sin of mankind.
Every single second on that cross at Calvary carried so much agony in it that it only be described as “unbearable”; but Jesus bore it all for man’s sake.
Listen, Jesus bore it all, and added that “โฆCome unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you restโฆ” He did not leave any other cross for you to carry (for indeed, you cannot)
There is no greater blessing in this season than having an understanding of all the mysteries that unraveled on that cross where Christ hung. And my prayer is for the Holy Spirit to reveal it all to you in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
