Today’s Devotional…
Many Christians know the Bible verse that says “all have sinned,” but they don’t know the verse that explains how it happened.
Well, our opening verse tells us how: it wasn’t by any wrongdoing from anyone, but the simple fact that everyone other human was born after a FALLEN Adam.
According to Genesis 1:26, God made Adam (And Eve) in His image and likeness, but our opening verse indicates that the children of Adam were now in his own image and likeness, and not that of God.
But where is the problem if Adam is in the image and likeness of God, and his children are in his own image and likeness instead of God’s? Should that not be the same image? But no.
The answer is that, Adam did not immediately beget children when God created him in His perfect image and likeness. Adam only began bearing children after he had already eaten the fruit and contaminated the image and likeness of God that was within him, giving rise to a new substandard being which became known in theology as the fallen or sinful man.
It is this fallen man who began to multiply the likeness of his sinful self, to fill the whole earth. This is what the apostle Paul was referring to when he said that all had sinned, even those who did not do it in the similitude of Adam’s disobedience.
Before you erroneously conclude that you too are a helpless sinner, I have good news for you; Adam and all his descendants are dead. They died in Christ.
Jesus Christ became the second and last Adam, giving rise to the Christ generation today, who, in the same manner, are born after the image and likeness of Jesus Christ, which is incorruptible!
May the eyes of your understanding be enlightened in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
