The moment you begin to think of yourself as more righteous than another person based on your works, then you have not understood the gospel of Christ.
There is nothing you can do that will make you appear righteous before God. Righteousness comes from Jesus Christ alone.
So, whether you do good works or not, your righteousness comes as a free gift from Christ. The same gift of righteousness was given to all men at the resurrection of Christ.
When you begin to think more highly of yourself than others, you are insinuating that your good works brought you salvation and not Christ. That is the spirit of antichrist.
Paul in Romans 3:27 said this: “Then what can we boast about doing to earn our salvation? Nothing at all. Why? Because our acquittal is not based on our good deeds; it is based on what Christ has done and our faith in him.”(TLB)
This strange “holiness” we carry ourselves about with, based on the way we live our lives, is simply a deception. Ponder…
You don’t become holy by living an obedient life to God; you begin to live a life of obedience and holiness when you understand your gift of righteousness from Christ.
Even to the cross-dispensational generation, Paul wrote: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Eph 2:8-9 KJV)
So, men and brethren, there is no place for boasting. The same God who made you perfect made the one you call imperfect perfect. It is not up to you to decide who fits in God’s list of grace.
May humility and gratitude be your attitude as you enjoy God’s gift of righteousness today, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
