Today’s Devotional?
The word “manna” comes from the Hebrew term βmanβ, which literally means βWhat is this?β This meaning comes directly from the reaction of the Israelites in the wilderness when they first saw manna according to Exodus chapter 16.
So, manna was not a name for what the Israelites ate in the wilderness but an ages old question passed down from Moses until Christ.
Jesus Christ came to reveal the mystery of the bread that was eaten in the wilderness; for the bread was a prophecy pointing to a person.
Jesus revealed in the above portion of scripture that He was indeed the concealed message behind the “bread” that the Israelites received from the sky in the wilderness.
And just as the Israelites needed just a limited quantity for the day, Jesus was indicating that He would offer Himself to the whole world so that each individual would have enough to sustain themselves for eternity.
So today, “manna” is no longer a question but a prophecy fulfilled some two thousand years ago, and revealed as the man Jesus Christ with whom we are now called to have fellowship every second of our lives forever.
May the Holy Spirit grant you understanding, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
