Today’s Devotional…
This is a very tricky question, and most Christians do not have the right answer to it. A typical Christian would respond that Jesus died for “us”, and would add that He died for “our” sins. But no!
Jesus did not die for the people who believed in Him. In fact, Jesus died for people who never knew Him, so, never had the opportunity to “believe” in Him.
For somewhere in the Middle East, John, looking at Jesus, said: “Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world”, meanwhile there were people in Africa or Asia who had no clue that either John or even Jesus existed. Nevertheless, this could not alter the truth that Jesus indeed took away their sins.
Jesus did not come to die to set the bases for future salvation. God sent Him because the world had already become too sinful. In fact, when the sins of the world were full to the brim, that is when Jesus came.
In other words, what motivated Jesus to come to earth was sin and not righteousness. So He came to deal with the sin that He so hated, in order to set the stage for an everlasting reign of righteousness. Ponder…
So Jesus died for the sinful world before the cross, to take away their sin. But He did this also having you in mind; not as a sinner, but as one who, would be born into a sinless world. Ponder…
So yes, Jesus died for Adam (that means all men before the cross,) because of his sin, and for you so that you would live and move and have your being in Him, spotlessly clean. Don’t you just feel graciously loved?
May the Holy Spirit open the eyes of your understanding to catch the light of the gospel, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
