According to Deuteronomy 19:15, concerning witnesses, one witness was never enough to convict someone of a crime or sin; at least two witnesses were necessary to prove that ge/she was guilty.
It is in the same light that our opening scripture records that two witnesses (in this case, the law and the prophets,) were necessary to testify of the righteousness of man.
The law which was erroneously expected to make man righteous, was one of the key witnesses testifying that (both itself and the prophets) had no hand in the righteousness of man.
They both testify that the righteousness of man could only have come as a gift from Jesus Christ.
No law of Moses or prophecy of the past could ever take away sin and make man righteous. This is the testimony of the two witnesses: the Law and the Prophets.
These two witnesses were enough to establish that all men were eternally made righteous and therefore continue to appear perfect in Christ before God.
May the Holy Spirit take you deeper into this mystery, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
