Today’s Devotionalโ€ฆ

Many Christians have misinterpreted the above scripture as a prerequisite for salvation. No, Paul was referencing an ancient prophecy that pointed to the endpoint of divine salvation.

Below is the full text from Isaiah 45:23-24
“I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed”

This was not a condition for men to fulfill in order to achieve righteousness, but rather a conclusion of how God’s righteousness would be given to all men as a gift.

Every knee bowed, and every tongue confessed in Christ. This was the fulfillment of that prophecy, and the revelation of God’s plan to save all mankind from sin and to give them righteousness as an eternal gift.

Considering our opening scripture as a precondition for salvation, totally nullifies the price Christ paid for the sin of mankind, and reintroduces works which had long proven to be futile.

The prophecy was not conditional, it was definitive. According to Isaiah 45:23, God even irrevocably swore by Himself in righteousness, that every knee would bow, and every tongue confess unto Him.

This was not a prophecy for individual consideration in the afterlife but a reality that was experienced in the death and resurrection of Christ.

It was not a declaration of condemnation but of the conclusion of all mankind bowing in worship to God Almighty.

So, if all bow, who should a loving Father condemn? Ponderโ€ฆ

May the Holy Spirit grant you the grace of interpreting scriptures accurately, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
