Yes, sometimes, in your walk in Christ, you may get weary and even feel abandoned. It is at such moments that we usually feel the need for a reassuring backup.
In the portion of scripture above, when Joab saw that a battle was set against him and his brother Abishai in front and behind, he told his brother that they should be each other’s backup.
Listen, in this journey of life, you will need others to stand with you when you are overwhelmed, and they may need you too when they are overwhelmed.
Whatever happens, we must never lose any battle, or let each other be defeated.
Face the challenges in front of you with courage knowing that you have a brother somewhere behind as your backup.
On the other hand, be the brother who watches from behind as your brother confronts his own challenges.
In reality, when you read the story further, you find that victory never really came from either of the two brothers, but from God.
So, yes; I am here for you! Indeed, it is God who fights our battles, so our victory is assured.
When you are determined to stand with your brother in his struggles, God gives him victory in his battle and also gives you victory in your unseen battles.
May you be a brother’s keeper to someone from today, and may you always have a brother to stand behind you, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
